How I Spent My Summer Vacation: Jessie Malakouti

For the first installment of our “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” guest blog series we were fortunate enough to hear from Jessie Malakouti of Jessie and The Toy Boys. Haven’t heard of her? Well you should have! She spent her summer on tour with Britney Spears! Check out her blog entry and listen to some tunes here.

Travel size shampoo? Check. Toothbrush? Check. Extra socks per Miss Nicki Minaj? Double check.  I stood in line at Target leaning against my bright red shopping cart filled with snacks, snuggly blankies, and every Rom-com that’s gone to DVD in the last 5 years waiting to check out.  “Going on a road trip?” The cashier asked. “Something Like that…” I replied, “See that girl right there?” pointing to the latest issue of US weekly. “Britney Spears”? The cashier answered. “Yup. Britney Spears. I am going on a road trip with Britney freaking Spears!”

To say that I have had the best summer of my life would be an understatement. I got to spend the last three months traveling the globe playing concerts with some of the biggest superstars in business, first as a part of The Femme Fatale Tour and then again with The Identity Festival. It was such an incredible experience touring with Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears, and I am so honored that they chose me to be one of the femme fatales. All my life I have dreamed of playing arenas, I’ve tried to close my eyes and imagine what it would feel like performing songs that I’ve written to thousands of screaming fans, and this summer I lived that dream.

The Identity Festival was just as magical. It was like one summer long party! The line up included some of my favorite Dj’s, like Kaskade and Rusko. It was really special to get to hang out at the festival and meet my fans. The cherry on top this summer was making my television debut, performing “Push It” on The Conan Obrien show! I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole world and I am so excited for what’s to come.
