Less than a week before her new album Bangerz is released, Miley Cyrus premiered her hour-long documentary, Miley: The Movement, on MTV. The doc. took fans behind-the-scenes of the new album and Miley’s now infamous VMAs performance. She said a lot of great things, but we picked the best.
1. “I was a lot of people’s first idol”
Before you read this and think “well I’ve seen this list on every other website already”, you have to realize you’re reading a list compiled by one of those people who considered Miley Cyrus to be their first “idol”. The girl’s got plenty of die-hard fans ready to join the movement. Basically, we can count this as one of the most important things Miley said in the documentary.
2.”I’m starting as a new artist now”
So the twerk-tastic VMA performance didn’t really scream “I’M NOT HANNAH MONTANA!” to you? Now you’ve heard it straight from Miley herself. Miley Cyrus is a brand new artist, not the new Hannah Montana.
3. “Every time I do anything I wanna remember this is what separates me from everybody else”
The music industry is over-flowing with the same exact pop artists and Miley is bringing something unique to the table. Collaborating with producer Mike WiLL Made It was something she jumped into since “no pop chicks were really messing with him like that”.
4. “If I really want to come out and do like a raunchy sex show, I wouldn’t have been dressed as a damn bear.”
Miley’s got a whole publicity plan of her own, and she’s doing a pretty great job of making a splash in the media. Liam who…?
5. “You’re always gonna make people talk you might as well make them talk for two weeks instead of two seconds.”
I think we’re still talking about the 2003 Britney/Madonna kiss, right? I already see Miley’s performance dominating the 2034 50th anniversary VMA montage. Miley is making music history.
6. “It’s not a transition, it’s a movement.”
Miley isn’t changing who she is, she’s developing a new vision for her career. One of the hardest parts of being a new artist is establishing the “whole package”, but hey, seems like Miley’s got hers gift wrapped and ready to be shipped out to the world.
7. “I’m from America, land of the free. If you can’t express yourself you’re not that free.”
If there’s one thing you have to admire about Miley, it’s that she’s not afraid to let loose and be herself, not something everyone in the spotlight has the courage to do. Come on, she’s just being Miley (didn’t see that pun coming, did ya?)
9. “I have this freedom to do whatever I want because people trust me”
Together Miley and Mike WiLL decided “We Can’t Stop” would be the first single Miley released, which debatably was going to be the deciding factor of whether or not “Miley 2.0” would really take off. The VMA for fan-voted “Best Song Of The Summer” award went to the adorable Brits of One Direction, but “We Can’t Stop” didn’t go down without of a fight. So hey, I trust Miley with her career choices, don’t you?
