San Francisco’s I The Mighty will release Karma Never Sleeps – their new EP and Equal Vision Records debut – in 2012. “Our new material is pretty different from our previous releases. Karma Never Sleeps is a lot heavier, a bit darker, and has a moodier ambient,” explains bassist Chris Hinkley. The band is currently on tour with K Sera to support the new EP, and obviously it’s easy to get a little homesick. Check out what Brent has to say about tour life vs. home life!
Luckily, I have a passion for traveling. I’m always so juiced before we leave for tour, even if it’s a short one or just within our home state of California. Sure, it’s hard work and can really test your patience and stamina at times, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who would argue that it’s not some of the most enjoyable work out there. The comradery, the adrenaline rush before a set, the euphoria after, and meeting new and awesome musicians every day make it relatively easy to shake off the occasional home-sickness.
That being said, the downfalls can grow tiresome. Sleeping in a cramped, cold van every night (one that will eventually, inevitably smell), the lack of solidarity, missing your significant other and all your friends (who always go to the COOLEST parties a week after you leave and text you about how it was the most AMAZING experience of their LIVES…and though you know they’re lying about it, it still sucks), and of course, the lack of money for anything but a diet of dollar menu, sodium-enriched, MSG-ridden, “I’m going to regret that in the morning,” food.
The positives still definitely outweigh the negatives.
