Over the past couple of years, YouTube and the term “YouTubers” have become wildly popular forms of entertainment. A crazy experience only thought to be able to be achieved by a select few talented individuals is now happening to thousands and thousands of people: they are making a living simply off of making videos. Videos ranging from “vlogs”, short for video blogs, where the user talks about various topics and gets popular based upon their personality to makeup tutorials and video game play.
YouTube has grown immensely and there is so much content on the site about so many different topics that it would take a lifetime to watch all of the videos. There are some mega-stars who have upwards of 10 million subscribers who aren’t necessarily great channels to watch while there are other channels with only a few hundred or thousand subscribers who are worth every single second. In this post I would like to highlight the channels that I personally believe are worth every single one of your seconds, subscribes and follows. These individuals are great at making videos, running a successful channel and being a friendly person overall on all kinds of social media. They are perfect examples of today’s changing world on technology and show that you can really make a living doing what you love.
Since there are so many different kinds of youtubers, I’m going to separate the ones I have compiled by channel type: vlogger, gaming, music and makeup/beauty.
SUPERFRUIT is a channel by Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, two best friends who are well known from another YouTube channel/their music group, Pentatonix. The two of them have the most animated personalities and can make you smile and laugh through the entirety of every one of their videos. Although their channel is fairly new, they have already brought on some big names from YouTube like Tyler Oakley and the amazing Tori Kelly. The friendship and chemistry that Mitch and Scott have is what makes this channel so great. They are able to bounce off of each other’s energy and keep their content interesting through every upload. I guarantee laughs every time.

Which came first… the individual channel or the collab channel? Althought I don’t know the answer to that question I DO know that Connor Franta’s YouTube channel is a funny one. Connor is a part of “Our Second Life” or ‘O2L’, another channel on YouTube where he lives in a house with five other guys and they all record videos on specific days of the week to that respective channel. While that’s all fun and games, Connor is easily the most entertaining boy in that group which is why I listed his personal channel. On there he does just the same thing just… it’s only him. Connor is one of my favorite vloggers because he doesn’t try too hard to be popular and he’s irresistibly charming. At only 21, he’s definitely living the dream of living in Los Angeles and making videos of himself talking to make a living. His videos range from collabs with well known YouTubers to discussing pop culture events and generally topics that everybody goes through like ‘Annoying People at the Airport’ and ‘How to Avoid Talking to People’. The best part about his channel is that he doesn’t overdo it with the collabs and is continually talking about interesting stories and topics in his videos.

CTFxC, or Charles Trippy Familycore, is the channel by Charles Trippy and his wife Alli who have been filming daily vlogs for five years. Yep. That’s a vlog a day, every day, for five years. They currently hold the Guinness World Record for the longest consecutive daily vlog. Many of you may know of Charles who joined We The Kings in 2011 to replace Drew Thomsen, the founding bass player. Their vlogs took a serious turn in late 2013 when the couple found out that Charles had a serious form of brain cancer. It’s cool to be able to log into YouTube every day and have a new video from these two that show how hopeful you can be even when life throws a fastball at you.

Sorted Food is a food channel that showcases four “hosts”, Ben, Jamie, Mike and Barry, cooking up delicious meals and desserts all while having fun and goofing off. Did I mention they were all pals? That’s what makes Sorted Food such an enjoyable channel to watch. Well, both that and the amazing cinematography that they use to show off their creations. Sorted has a main website where they share lots of recipes and photos but the YouTube channel is what makes it all so special because you get easy, to the point instructions for everything all while sitting back and enjoying yourself. It’s almost as if you were watching Food Network except the hosts are all good looking British guys and the food is actually stuff that you’d make and eat yourself. Don’t even get me started on their Eye Candy series…. Just check it out for yourself.

The term “gamers” used to be associated with ‘lazy’ people who just sit in their houses all day and play videos games. While that may be somewhat true for some, it is not for Mitch or more commonly known by his channel name, BajanCanadian. Mitch is a nineteen-year-old guy who uploads videos of him playing the increasingly popular computer game Minecraft. He has over three million subscribers and posts multiple videos a day of him playing various Minecraft mini-games with many of his other YouTube pals. Mitch and his friends have all gotten so popular on YouTube that a group of them have recently moved to Los Angeles into a house together and have created their own group channel called Team Crafted. Nowadays having good content isn’t enough to keep people watching. Having a great personality does. Mitch and all of his pals that he plays with all joke around while playing and make funny commentary in the background that sets his channel apart from a lot of the others. It doesn’t hurt that he’s very good at the game, too.

Since 2007, Kurt Hugo Schneider has amassed almost four million subscribers with 775,000,000 video views over his hundreds of uploads. Kurt is a music producer and filmmaker and brings in talented celebs and other YouTube artists onto his video products to create absolutely phenomenal cover videos. Some well-known artists that he’s worked with in his videos are Victoria Justice, Sam Tsui, Boyce Avenue and Keke Palmer. Aside from putting together beautiful videos and music arrangements, Kurt seems to know how to play practically every instrument as he’s usually in his videos playing piano or drumming alongside of the singers. Watching one of Kurt’s videos is like watching a short film because of the stunning film work. There is nobody like Kurt Hugo Schneider anywhere on YouTube because he’s one intensely talented guy.

The makeup world has been completely overtaken by beauty vloggers who are looking for their moment of fame. Unfortunately, the pathway to quick popularity is often laden with giveaways to subscribers, collaborations with endless other “beauty gurus” and sponsored videos with brands that people don’t even care about. Whenever there is a guru who does not do any of those things, I immediately take notice. When that guru is also extremely skilled, well spoken and knowledgeable with everything beauty then that guru makes my list. That guru is Makeup By Alli. Refreshingly, Alli is from Philadelphia, PA, which is far, far away from the oversaturated Los Angeles market. Her location is not the only thing about her that sets her apart from the other thousands of girls who make videos as well. She’s great at applying and teaching how to apply makeup to create a bunch of different, unique looks. Alli is always true and honest with her opinions on products that she’s trying out and is always looking out for her viewers’ best interests.

Another fresh face in the beauty vlogger world is Chloe Morello. Chloe is from Australia and offers a different insight on brands and beauty products as Aussies have different brands than America and Europe. She’s a pro at the application of makeup and has found her niche in making many videos for religious ladies who wear Hijabs and headscarves. Chloe was recently on the Australian Today Show to talk about her channel and her newest business venture, the Chloe Morello Beauty Box where viewers can sign up to receive a box of products each month handpicked by Chloe herself. Just like Alli, she creates unique looks that set her apart from the many others trying to be successful on YouTube. It doesn’t hurt that she’s absolutely beautiful, too.
