A Change of Pace frontman Torry Jasper takes NAKED behind their song, “Take Care.”
Torry Jasper: I have always had an affinity for “Take Care”. The song has a lot of fond memories associated with it: where it was written, the ease with which it came together, and the overall message of the song.
Constantly touring means we don’t get to be home for some of the best days of the year (i.e. Thanksgiving). So, while stuck in Chicago for Thanksgiving, we decided to pull out the acoustics and start writing. The vibe in Chicago itself is amazing, but the fact that we were there at such an awesome time of year, with snow and the lights of the city, just made it all that much more special.
I’m not sure what it was about “Take Care”, but the song literally took half an hour to write. It just flowed and moved seemlessly from verse to chorus, bridge, and even the outro. Lyrically it was the song that, for some reason, took the least amount of effort to write. Not because I didn’t know what I wanted out of it, but actually the exact opposite. Every word was placed on the pad of paper, in what seemed like, perfect precision.
Having a lot of people trying to stick their nose in your business is one of my biggest pet peeves. I hated having my life posted on the Internet, and everyone always wanting to know what I was doing every second of the day. I guess I’m just not a social networking kinda guy. “Take Care” was all about getting my identity back and not having to worry about what I did personally with all the online backlash. Just take care of yourself and I’ll do the same. Pretty easy concept right? Easier said than done, I suppose. I loved the concept the second we decided to write about it, and I am still extremely happy about the final product when I listen to it to this day.
