You may know Dove Cameron as the cute and quirky girl from Disney Channel’s Liv &Maddie, or The Descendants. You probably don’t know that her and fiancé, Ryan McCartan, who also stars in Liv & Maddie, have their own pop band. The duo started The Girl and the Dreamcatcher back in 2015, and are finally releasing their debut EP, Negatives.  The duo is joining a growing list of couples turned band mates, and lucky us, because they sound amazing together!

Although Cameron is well known in the acting world, the 20 year old has been singing since she was a child. She started off in choir in California, and went on to release multiple solo singles, before creating The Girl and The Dreamcatcher with McCartan.  As for McCartan, he performed in Heathers: The Musical before joining Cameron in their musical endeavor.

The highly anticipated EP features 6 original songs, all which really show the duo’s musical taste and talents. The track list begins with “Make You Stay” and “Glowing in the Dark”, both of which were released earlier this year and start the album off with a bang. My personal favorite, “Gladiator”, has a great dance beat with a slight techno sound. Along with catchy, karaoke-worthy tunes, the EP also features some slower tempo, heartfelt sounds. “Monster” is a beautiful song that shows Cameron’s wide vocal range, and her ability make great music no matter what she’s singing. The whole album is a variety of different sounds that is impressive for any artist, but especially ones that are just starting off.

As far as new artists go, these two are definitely worth a listen. Dove and Ryan’s voices are so different from each other’s, but sound so good when combined. The couple has a great chemistry that reminds me of fellow couple duo, Alex & Sierra, but with a pop twist that really sets them apart from other similar artists. I see big things happening for these artists in the future.
