I just had the most amazing summer! My name is Olivia Somerlyn. I just finished my first tour opening for Big Time Rush and Victoria Justice. In the weeks leading up to opening night (at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles — an iconic venue that I’ve always wanted to perform at and have attended many shows at) I couldn’t sleep! One night I was too nervous to sleep, the next night I was too excited. I guess I should have expected that — I was about to throw myself into a 38-date amphitheater and arena tour (up to 15,000 people at each venue). It was so incredible to finally be able to perform for and reach so many people.
For the past six years, I’ve been traveling between San Francisco and L.A. writing, recording, rehearsing and refining my music style while attending high school, taking AP test, SATs and applying to college. If I wasn’t in school I was working on homework, working on music or working my way through airport security. There wasn’t much time for anything else, but I didn’t mind because I knew I was working to make my biggest dream a reality.
When I was 15, I wrote myself a letter to be opened on opening night of my first tour. The most memorable line was “I hope even when you’re reading this you still remember how it felt to be in the audience.” I do remember and I’ve promised to share everything I can with my fans (SomerLovers!). Through my constant stream of Instagram photos (@OliviaSomerlyn — I’m addicted!), I’ve tried to show my followers what goes on behind the scenes because I know I used to wonder what it was like to be where I am today. I hope to use this blog to accomplish the same goal. Please feel free to ask me questions in the comments so I know what you want to hear about. I can’t wait to share my incredible summer with you!
